Can you name a point of rapid response and shoot digital camera with some friendly options?

I want to buy a digital camera that is reasonable in price (200-400 U.S. dollars). One that is not too complicated to use, but nice and has a very fast response time. What I mean this is a camera that will take the picture very quickly after pressing the button. It would be nice if there was a zoom option and needs quality to be friendly Moron (LOL!) and take nice, photos are worth keeping. The photos would be of fish, animals, family, weather, sports, new puppy, and so on. Do you have any idea? It's for a holiday gift to my son and daughter-in-law. I am sincerely grateful for their experience with the camera!
