Digital Newspapers Australia

When it comes to Internet, the simplest advice of all is that if you want to keep their intellectual property over their own and do not want it to be copied, stolen or abused — simply not to publish digitally. Whether their works are the words, pictures, websites or anything that can be described as "creative" this is the only sure way to protect yourself!

But realistically, it is almost impossible these days to run any business without a certain amount of examples and information about your business easily available online. In this day and age you can almost say the same about his private life with the prevalence of sites Social networks like Facebook and Twitter!

Now, here is a short story for that way of example, I mounted a small T shirt design a bit fun on a site they use – I will not mention the site here, for the simple reason that despite being disappointed by them, remains one of my favorite places and I do not want get me banned!

This shirt – Drop your political and personal opinions here – was a joke about (in my opinion) the inquiry fiasco Princess Diana. After seeing more than an absurd debate at the time of the conspiracy theorists I decided to have a joke with a couple of friends.

In terms of points, here is the chain of events;

  • The design of the shirt was uploaded to the site April 6, 2008
  • He received a number of positive comments from like-minded individuals who took in the vein that was scheduled for the next couple of days
  • About 6 or 7 days later someone sent me the URL of an Australian newspaper article about an Australian t-shirt company that apparently had copied the idea
  • Strictly speaking, this is not a copyright violation, as no one owns the "words" or image of Diana, but for a company that claims to be "original" is quite poor
  • A number of comments were few days that led me to believe that other users of the site saw what this company had made a copy, and a very nice lady in Australia had approached them to ask in my name. They replied that they had been sitting in the design five years? (is that really sound very likely?)
  • Rather worried that what he had done as a joke was essentially a lot of coverage on TV and the press in Australia and is used for financial gain, I decided to write to newspapers and TV companies that had run articles – Unanswered
  • To get the company to trace the wood (which had already been given my email and had ignored e-mail mail me) sent me another t-shirt design on the site that are accused by name of appropriating the ideas, the description says that fortunately be eliminated provided that if the documentary evidence he claimed to have
  • Indeed crawling under your stone, that shirt was retired – I expected, and responded with a comment that he had documentary proof of their 'design' preceded mine (call me a "whiner Pom '- for someone who sells it themselves as "creative" is not very imaginative is an insult!)
  • I responded saying I want to remove my original design, when I had seen the test, this time I'm really bored with the whole thing – but I'm not the type of person to let things fall
  • Of course I have not had a reply, never saw any evidence and still believe they stole my idea
  • Then I removed the original website, saying it had violated the copyright on the use of the image I had – which is not the case – which was taken from a public domain and manipulated before use
  • The website again passed my details to the company for you can contact me – Of course it never did.

The moral of the story: Expect to have everything put online stolen, always place a copyright notice on its website and the Always ready to give battle on the principle of pure!

(The title = "Original article"> original article, including images of comparison remains in line with the names and links intact and it has since April 2008)
